UCSC Global Medical Brigades

Summer 2010

Do you want the chance to provide much-needed medical and dental relief to hundreds of Hondurans living in a rural, impoverished village?

Join us Summer 2010 for a 7 day student-run Medical Brigade to Honduras! We will be sending a group of dedicated volunteers, along with doctors, pharmacists, and nurses to Honduras during our summer trip to set up a temporary clinic to provide as much free medical aid as possible to a small village in Honduras.

This is a unique opportunity for anyone who is interested in medicine, public health, Central America, or international development.  We especially need Spanish-speaking students on the brigade; however, everyone (even with no Spanish or medical experience) is encouraged to apply.

Honduras is one of the poorest countries in Latin America with about 70% of the population living in poverty.  Disease and malnutrition are the leading causes of death in children under 5 years old, and education, health care and clean water are luxuries.

We will be gathering donations, medical supplies, and medicine throughout the year to bring with us to Honduras. All members of the brigade will be paying their own travel, room and board expenses, however, we will fundraise together to minimize expenses.

To join us on this trip, please go to the "Register" page and follow the instruction on how to join!
